“Well I like to play it safe!” He said with a small laugh. “Yeah I know exactly what you mean!” He said nodding his head. He grinned and blushed a little when Santana called him a gentleman. He doesnt even know why he blushed though, luckily it was only a little. He looked at the menu and knew exactly what he wanted to he put it down. He didnt even think about looking at the price. Money wasnt an issue for him since hes been making it with broadway and his album since he was six years old. “Hmm… Im a great cook?” He said unsure if Santana knew that already.
The waitress came and he ordered a chicken dinner with a fancy name and a glass of water since he had to watch his sugar intake. “Have you made your mind up yet?” He asked nicely not trying to rush Santana. He closed his menu and passed it to the waitress and smiled at her friendly. He liked to make people feel welcomed when they were around him.
Santana couldn’t help the sly smile that spread across her face when Nate blushed. She noticed it, even if it was just a small blush. It was adorable, and in a weird way she felt proud that she had made him blush. Glancing back down at the menu, she decided on a pasta dish and shut it, leaning forward to refocus on Nate. “I love cooking,” Santana said with a little bit of surprise. She hadn’t known that Nate could cook. “I used to cook with mi abuela and I still love to do it. My ex-boyfriend was kinda hopeless so I cooked for him a lot.” She smiled at Nate. “We’ll have too cook for each other sometime, hm?”
“Yeah, I am,” she told Nate before telling the waitress her order, handing the menu to her. She noticed Nate’s manners with the waitress and smiled to herself - her mother had always said to judge a guy based on how he treated waiter’s and Nate was certainly polite with them. Her mother would approve.

Nate laughed a bit when Santana told him to drive faster. “Well I cant get a speeding ticket!” He said picking up a little speed but not alot. “I know what you mean but this means its time to relax right? You do need a break from work once in a while!” He said nodding his head a bit. “Great!” He said in response of Santana saying that she would try her best to go see it. As he got out and opened the door for Santana she linked arms with his. He adjusted his arm so it was giving her arm more room. He walked her into the building and walked up to the hostess who was in charge of reservations. “Table for two for Stevens please!” He said knowing he made a reservation earlier.
The hostess led him to their table and he pulled the chair out for Santana. It was always a thing for him to act like a gentleman. He couldnt stand it when guys would just walk in before their date and just sit down right away. It was his biggest pet peeve. He picked up the menus that were on a table and handed one to Santana. “Choose anything you like!” He said assuring her that money was not an issue for him and for her to just ignore the prices and order what she wants.
“Oh shush, live a little. I always speed and I’ve never gotten a ticket,” Santana said with an innocent shrug. She paused, thinking over what he was saying. “I don’t know. I guess, yeah, you do need a break, but I’m not really enjoying it. I don’t want to take a vacation from work because I love what I’m doing, you know?” She walked with Nate, letting him speak to the hostess. The fact that he had even gotten a reservation here was pretty impressive, Santana thought, she knew that it was a fairly hard restaurant to get into to.
“Such a gentlemen,” Santana murmured as Nate pulled out her chair, sitting down and crossing one leg over another. She let him sit down across from her, handing a menu before restarting a conversation. Choose anything you like! Santana glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. So often now guys always expected girls to split the bill, especially on the first date. Nate really was a gentleman. “So,” she said while glancing over the menu. “Tell me something about you I don’t know. That’s typical first date conversation, right?”

“Finding something funny eh?” He said with a joking tone. Whatever made her laugh, he felt like he needed to continue since he liked to make people laugh. To him it meant that the person was happy. “Dont worry! We will be there soon enough!” He said with a grin spreaded across his face. “I know what you mean! Its actually one of the reasons why I went back to Broadway, so I can preoccupy my mind and keep myself busy.” He said agreeing with Santana. “Hairspray is going great! We’re actually pretty far ahead!” He said sounding quite surprised. “You should come see the show! I would love to see you there!” He said smiling. “Oh and Thank you! Ive been doing in character exercises all day to the point that Im actually starting to act like him.” He said with a small laugh.
He drove some more and found the restaurant he was planning on bringing Santana too. He pulled into the parking lot of the fancy building and parked fairly close so Santana wouldnt have to walk very far, if she was in heels. “We’re here!” He said unbuckling his seatbelt, grabbing his wallet and stuffing it into his pocket and getting out of the car. He walked around to the other side of the car and opened up the door for Santana and gave her a polite smile.
“Drive fast then, mister,” she said, shooting a glance over towards him. He had a smile on his face, and that paired with the suit made her very eager for wherever they were going - it was obviously going to be fun. “Yeah, I’m not used to having this much idle time. It’s weird, ever since I’ve moved here I’ve been throwing myself into my work and it finally paid off and now it’s just like….well, now what?” She listened to Nate talk about Hairspray, obviously excited about it. “I’ll do my best to be there, I’d love to see it,” she said honestly. That, and the fact that Berry was in it, so she really probably should go.
We’re here! Santana looked up, surprised that they had already reached their destination. She realized they were at one of the nicest restaurants in their area and made a small noise of appreciation as Nate walked around the car to open her door. She appreciated that he parked close, her heels more pretty than comfortable. Santana neatly climbed out of the car, returning Nate’s smile. She reached her hand out, lightly sliding her hand around his elbow and linking her arm with his so they could walk into the restaurant.

Nate smirked. “It is!” He said agreeing with her. He liked how easy it was to get along with her and felt they could possibly go somewhere from this date. At least what he thought. “Ive been in L.A for most of my life and it still feels like the first day back at times. So many things going on here!” He said with a grin. “Yes indeed a surprise!” He said and winked as he would if he was Link Larken. He was really getting enthusiastic about Hairspray that he was catching on to some of Links ways. He closed the door after she got in and walked around to the other side of the car, getting in.
As he began to drive towards the fancy restaurant he played music on really low, it helped him concentrate when driving. ‘Supersticious’ by Stevie Wonder was playing on a really low volume. “So how are you?” He asked glancing over and grinning at Santana as he drove. He tapped his fingers on the wheel and took a breath to calm himself. He was still feeling fairly nervous for this date. He was trying the best he could to impress Santana hoping she would say yes to another date if he ever asked her.
Santana couldn’t help but laugh when Nate winked. Hairspray was certainly rubbing off on him. He definitely wasn’t her typical guy (he was nice, for a start), but she liked spending time with him, and it was so easy to just get along with him. She waited for Nate to walk around the car and get in before wrinkling her nose a little bit. “I’m not very patient, I’ll have you know, so this surprise better not last too long,” she said, her tone teasing.
With a slight raise of her eyebrows, Santana listened to the music for a second - an interesting choice, from an oldies station. As a huge music person, she always loved when somebody appreciated something other than what was popular at the moment, as Nate obviously did, a music person himself. “How am I? Could be better, could be worse,” she deadpanned, sighing. “No, I’m good. I’m going crazy now that I’ve finished recording cause I feel like I have nothing to do, you know? So much time on my hands now. I’ve already started writing more stuff though, so hopefully this album goes well enough that I can do another. How about you, how’s hairspray going? You’ve certainly got the Link smoothness down.”

Nate usually meant every compliment he said. He would never lie when he complimented people. “Well of course! My house didnt look nice at all when I first moved in! It looked like a wreck!” He said with a small laugh. He never imagined Santana ever saying yes to him, he would of imagined her with someone more, built and more cool. He was just a broadway nerd with curly hair that still read the occasional comic book. He thought this was all a dream and that he was going to wake up soon and feel disappointed that it was just an illusion, but something told him that this was real for sure.
Nate grinned and opened up his mouth to say something then closed it and thought for a moment. “Its a surprise!” He said in a somewhat teasing tone. He loved to surprise people. He didnt want to tell her he was taking her to a fancy restaurant right away, since some girls would freak out and start texting all of their friends during the ride there and eventually land up ignoring him, so he thought it would be a better idea to keep it as a surprise. “Come?” He asked holding his arm out giving Santana the option to link arms or not. He walked to his car and opened up the door for her and gestured for her to get in.
Santana laughed, shaking her head. “God, moving was so stressful. I’m so happy here now, I do not want to pick up and move anywhere else anytime soon. Although I’ve been here for 5 years….it certainly doesn’t feel like it,” she said with a sigh, looking around fondly at her apartment as she closed and locked the door behind them.
“A surprise? I was afraid you’d say that,” she said with a joking pout. If it was a surprise she figured it would be fun though, she shrugged and slipped her arm through Nate’s proffered one. “That definitely makes it more exciting though,” she said, letting her hand graze against his arm. “I will gladly come. Definitely not backing out now, you’ve gotten me all intrigued,” Santana said with a smile up at him as she slid into the car.

Nate waited patiently until he suddenly heard Santanas voice. He turned towards her and smiled softly at her. He looked at her outfit and his eyes widened. She looked beautiful, it kind of took his breath away. He shook his head with a smile on his face. “Wow! You look… Beautiful!” He said with surprise, even though it was no surprise to him since she always looked good. “Why thank you!” He said with a polite smile.Nate took a step in and looked around. “You have a nice home!” He said with a grin. He was planning on taking her to the fancy restaurant in the city. He knew it might of been too fancy for a first date but he wanted to do everything he could to win her over and of course he was a hopeless romantic at times and just couldnt control it.
Santana smiled even wider when he complimented her. “Thanks,” she said softly. He was so willing with the compliments, which usually made Santana a bit wary. However, she could Nate really meant them, so she appreciated them still. You have a nice home!Santana glanced around her apartment - it wasn’t big, a kitchen, living room and her bedroom, but she loved it and had put a lot of time into decorating it. “Well thanks,” she said, glancing over her shoulder at him. “It wasn’t nearly this nice when I first moved here. I started off with just a mattress because basically all I could afford was the rent. Clearly I’ve moved up a little bit,” she said with a laugh.
Her bag was sitting on the kitchen counter and she grabbed it, glancing in it quickly to make sure she had everything she would need. She headed back towards the door, smiling at Nate still glancing around. “Okay, I’m ready. Sooo….where are we going?” She bit her lip and looked up at him, her impatience hoping it wouldn’t be one of those surprise dates, but the romantic side of her (and yes, it did exist though she didn’t usually let people see it) hoping it was.

Nate threw on his favorite tuxedo and gelled his hair back. He wanted to look nice for the date with Santana. He paced back and forth in his living room for a bit before brushing his teeth three more times. Hes brushed his teeth at least ten times today due to nervousness. He wanted this date to go smoothly because he would really like to take her out on another one sometime. He thought Santana was beautiful and felt lucky that she even said yes to the date. He then realized he was too early to go so he just put on some more colonge and did last minutes touch ups on his hair until it was time to leave.
He went out to his car and checked his hair in the mirror one more time before turning on the ignition and driving to Santanas house. He felt more nervous by the second. What if the date did not run smoothly? What would he do? He has been having a lot of troubles getting girls ever since hes come back to L.A and he didnt understand it. He showed respect and was honest with them and was nice, yet they still were either not interested or suddenly taken. Nate parked outside of Santanas hosue and walked up to her door, taking a breath before knocking. He stepped back and put his hands behind his back and looked down the street waiting patiently for her to answer.
Santana had been surprised when Nate asked her on a date. He was a sweetheart, and she gladly accepted, though she hadn’t really thought she’d be his type. Before getting ready for the date, she had asked him how fancy she should go, and when he said dress up, her excitement only grew. Santana wanted to impress him, that was certain, but she also knew that no matter what she wore….he’d probably be impressed. She scanned through her closet, picking out a short sleeved, fitted mini dress with gold sequins, pairing it with a pair of nude pumps. She straightened her thick black hair and left it completely down, letting it fall down her back. Santana glanced in her full length mirror, a smile crossing her lips. She was surprised by how nervous she was, but she liked Nate and she looked good….so this date had to go well.
Santana heard a knock at the door and let out a deep breath, walking over to answer it. She peeked out, a noise of surprise slipping through her lips when she saw Nate. He was wearing a tux, and looked good. He was glancing down the street and Santana smiled, her excitement taking over any nerves that were lingering as she opened up the door. Santana leaned against the door frame, tilting her head to the side. “You clean up very well, I must say,” she said with a laugh, reaching out to tug on the lapel of the suit. “Come in, I just have to grab my bag, and then you can take me off to whatever you have planned.”
Old Timesake Breadstix
Artie was feeling nostalgic and he knew the best part to relive his highschool out here was Breadstix. And better yet why not invite his former rival, Santana to it. He picked up his phone and texed her.
Santana occasionally went to Breadstix out in LA, but really preferred not to. Breadstix in Lima was great and all, but reliving the past that way was a tad much in her opinion. When Artie texted her asking if she’d like to go, she hesitated. Artie and her had never been that great of friends, what with the whole Brittany thing, and it was a bit out of the blue. With a shrug, she decided that, why not. She was trying to be nicer in aspects of her life, and not treat people like she had in high school, so she texted back, agreeing to meet him.
Songs || Sate
Nate smiled at Santana after saying that she was impressed. “Yeah me too! It just makes you look better to them.” He shrugged. “Feelings are good. Those are actually the songs that matter.” He said being honest. “That’s smart! Get to know people and get to do anything.” He laughed a little. “Im looking forward to hearing you sing!” Nate said happily. When Santana finished talking to the random guy Nate smiled. “Perfect! I wonder if there would be enough time for me after you perform? Its been a little while since Ive actually performed live! Ive been stuck at rehearsals all week!” He said with a grin.
“The songs that actually matter….and the songs that are the scariest to perform and record and think about other people listening to,” she said with a laugh. “And yes, I’ve long since learned how to use my flirting skills to my advantage, so…” she shrugged and laughed again. “It certainly comes in handy here.” Santana nodded when he asked if there would be enough time for him - she was just as eager to hear him sing, so she had told the booker that there would be two of them anyway. “Of course. You don’t get to hear me for nothing, mister.”
Caretaking || Brittana
“You’re the best,” Brittany mumbled cuddling into her blanket. She greedily took the Gatorade in her hands and drank some of it down. Making sure not to drink it too fast like Santana instructed. The cool liquid felt wonderful going down her throat and she was tempted to just gulp it all down. But her friend knew what was best and so she listened. Picking up Lord Tubbington who had wandered by her she laid him on her lap and ran her hands through his soft fur, waiting patiently for her food. “I’m sorry the one time we get to hang out you have to see me like this,” she said regretting not hanging out with her before she got sick.
“Yeah. I know I am,” Santana said with a smile before disappearing into the kitchen to make the soup. She did it quickly, humming to herself as she did so, listening to make sure it sounded like Brittany was still okay. She went back to the living room with soup, smiling when she saw Lord Tubbington in Britt’s lap. “Here you go, Britt.” I’m sorry the one time we get to hang out you have to see me like this. Santana frowned a little bit - she rarely saw Britt anymore. “That’s okay. I’ve been busy, you’ve been busy. We should change that though, I miss my best friend,” She said, sitting onto the couch next to Brittany with a little bit of a sigh.
